About Me

Hi I’m Vanessa,

I have had a life-long love affair with jewellery making, taking my first class with a local jeweller when I was a teenager. Although I trained and worked as a nurse for 30 years after that first course, jewellery remained a passion of mine and I took further classes in it in my spare time. Early in 2013, I took the big decision to leave nursing and start my own jewellery business – and I haven’t looked back!

Although I predominantly trained in silver work, I found it didn't fulfil my desire to make bright, statement designs. When I discovered enamelled copper wires in a multitude of lovely colours, I handcoiled them myself and combined them with ancient wire weave techniques, freshwater pearls, gemstones and contemporary beads to create the bold, colourful pieces that my creativity had craved.

My muse comes from extensive travelling, culture and nature. I particularly love the curves and colours of the natural world and often incorporate them into my work. Just as a perfect rose, a sunset or a mountain cries out to be noticed, so does my jewellery which is inspired by them. A Vanessa Maile piece will definitely be commented on!

Customer service is hugely important to me, and I will happily work with you to make any of the designs in lengths or colours you like so that you are delighted with your jewellery. And, as I want your delight to last, I wear my own designs constantly to ensure their durability, practicality and longevity. My supplies are sourced from  British and local businesses where possible, and I especially enjoy innovative and ecological products such as the recycled packaging I use.

When I’m not designing or creating jewellery, I can usually be found gardening, walking, travelling somewhere new or spending time with my family, all of which fuels my creativity and inspiration even further.

I often exhibit my designs so do come over and say hello if you see me at an event. Or you can ‘meet’ me in cyberspace (FB page, twitter etc).
